Welcome!

On September 1, 2011, two offices—the UMass campus-wide Community Service Learning office and the Community Engagement Program of Commonwealth Honors College—merged into one and began operating as UMass's still-to-be-named office of service-learning.   You've come to this webpage which is hosted for the time being by the honors college, but we have information for all UMass students and faculty. The UMass Amherst Office of Civic Engagement and Service-Learning is here to support the entire UMass Amherst campus.  It was created in September 2011, by the merger of two offices--the UMass campus-wide Community Service Learning office and the Community Engagement Program of Commonwealth Honors College.

We are here to connect learning and community service--to connect students, faculty and community organizations in relationships and collaborative work that promote learning and support the goals and missions of community organizations.  Opportunities for students are built into academic service-learning courses.

UMass Amherst has a history of community service since its inception as a land grant institution in 1863 and has been designated by the Carnegie Foundation as a Community-Engaged University.
